Explains observations, represent s concepts, makes predictions, applies concepts, analyzes. Can explain observations and represent concepts through charts, graphs, tables. Can explain, but cannot fully represent the concept. Doesn't demonstrate any conceptual understanding.
Scientific Thinking
Relates concepts to real life situations; has strong problem solving skills using questioning & reasoning strategies. Demonstrates thoughtful questioning, problem solving skills, utilizes information from different sources. Asks few questions, has difficulty solving problems. Does not ask questions; cannot solve problems.
Scientific Tools & Technology
Uses scientific tools with no errors. Shows ability to use common scientific tools to make observations/ measurements. Can use some science tools but observations/measurements are inaccurate. Does not operate or use scientific tools. Does not record or make observations.
Scientific Communication
Represents data in multiple ways. Argues from evidence. Can explain concept to others. Communicates instructions to others Represents data in multiple ways; can make oral presentation. Represents data in one way only; has trouble explaining concepts in presentation. Unable to present data or explain concepts. Unable to present facts.
Classwork & Scientific Investigation
Can design and perform a controlled experiment. Can conduct an experiment using controls, variables. Has difficulty following directions of a controlled experiment. Cannot follow directions of a controlled experiment or recognize a controlled experiment.
