Number & Operation Concepts (M1)
Can use and explain more than one strategy to solve problems. Consistently and accurately performs all basic operations using rational numbers and applies them to solve word problems. Can identify correct operations and processes but makes a few errors in computation. Unable to consistently and accurately perform operations with rational numbers.
Geometry & Measurement Concepts (M2)
Can build a model to demonstrate mastery of geometric concepts. Can convert standard and metric units of measurement; can use math tools for different measurements; can calculate measurement of geometric figures. Can measure angles, weights, capacities, times and temp. but is unable to apply information to solve a problem. Unable to consistently measure angles, weights, capacities, times and temperatures.
Statistics & Probabillty (M3)
Can create and implement a student based poll and display data, interpret and predict results. Consistently and correctly collects data, organizes data displays with tables, charts and graphs. Can answer questions based on charts, data and tables supplied but is unable to organize data. Unable to interpret graphs, data, charts or tables with consistency
Problem Solving (M4)
Can utilize problem solving techniques to work effectively in teams to generate solutions and strategies for new problem solving situations. Can formulate and solve verbal problems involving various key concepts by using a variety of strategies. Can organize thoughts and begins to solve one-step problems. Unable to formulate equations in response to verbal problems.
Classwork & Mathematical Communication (M5)
Can develop a narrative which clearly describes a mathematical process. Can apply mathematical language to support conclusions and validate answers. Shows knowledge of math language but has difficulty expressing concepts verbally. Shows little to no knowledge of math terms and vocabulary.
